Hello! I’m Melanie Knight, the proud owner of Starry Knight Design, Inc., a small, woman-owned business. Since 2008, I have been dedicated to crafting unique, high-quality leather soft sole shoes for little ones, from tiny babies to adventurous big kids. What started as a small business I ran during nap times has blossomed into a thriving venture that now serves as the primary income for me and my four sons, allowing us to pursue our dreams while uplifting the community in Corvallis, Montana.
At Starry Knight Design, we pride ourselves on using only the finest premium leather and suede, designing each shoe with an elastic-sewn back that keeps it securely on even the most active, squirmy feet, without being restrictive. Our collection features a wide variety of styles and colors to suit every taste, including baby moccasins, moccasins with designs, Cute Critters animal shoes, T-straps, Mary Janes, Daisy sandals, seasonal Sunrise and Sequoia sandals, loafers, Two Tone loafers, Scout booties and fringe boots, as well as matching purses and headbands.

We are deeply committed to sustainability across every part of our business. Three key pillars guide our mission to create beautiful, responsibly made products while minimizing our environmental impact.
1. Responsible Sourcing
We use only high-quality leather and suede from reputable suppliers that meet high European standards. Choosing premium, long-lasting materials means shoes that wear in, not out, and can be passed down to siblings.
2. Zero-ish Waste
We work hard to minimize waste by creatively reusing leather scraps in our designs. Even the smallest pieces are turned into unique products. We also donate leather remnants to local schools and organizations for educational projects with children, and offer bags of scrap leather to local entrepreneurs, supporting small businesses and reducing waste through upcycling. Every order ships in plastic-free product packaging inside recycled EcoEnclose mailers.
3. Locally and Ethically Made
All of our products are handmade in the USA by an incredible team of local women, independent seamstresses who craft each item with care and precision. We make everything to order in small batches, which avoids overproduction and excess inventory. Any items exchanged or mis-made are resold at a discount, so nothing goes to waste.
Through these three pillars of responsible sourcing, waste reduction and local, ethical production, we are working toward a more sustainable future, one handmade pair at a time.
